a little bird told me..

Vicky Bird - Graphic Design at Uni. Leeds, with a particular interest in graphic design and art direction for fashion.
I have completed work placements at Matthew Williamson, Cosmopolitan, 1883 Magazine & Bitching and Junkfood.

This is design, art, travel, fashion and inspiring ideas...

London in 1927

It’s amazing to think that life WAS actually like this, its quite overwhelming to see a real picture of 1920’s life.

Incredible colour footage of 1920s London shot by an early British pioneer of film named Claude Frisse-Greene, who made a series of travelogues using the colour process his father William - a noted cinematographer - was experimenting with.

I’ve just come across Vivian Maier who had a secret passion for street style photography in 1950’s America. Amazing photographs, but there is something a bit creepy about her.

It’s actually a bit like the street style photography I’ve been doing - without the creep-factor.

Picasso as Fashion

Exploring the link between fashion and art, photographer Eugenio Recuenco creates fashion editorials that are inspired by and echo famous Picasso paintings.

“Different moments of the same outfit are captured in these fashion images; different instants of the same reality on Picasso’s paintings, all condensed and perceptible at one peek.” - fashion156.com

This caught my eye as it is in line with the possible direction that my major project is taking: using the medium of graphic design for fashion to explore and study a topic (mine being street style).

So inline with my Independent Project topic. The phenomenon of ‘Street Style’ and its false facade in fashion magazines and blogs.

ACNE Studios Dogs

The ridiculously incredible.

ACNE Studios team up with William Wegman for their latest S/S13 campaign to dress the most adorable doggies in the collection. Far from looking distasteful and ridiculous, the campaign maintains the stylish, chic aesthetic of the brand with a hint of humour.

PRADA Real Fantasies Spring/Summer 13

Incredible idea to let fans animate a music video!

Deadmau5 and Imogen Heap launched a competition to get fans to animate “a business man at an airport trying to have a meaningful mobile phone conversation with a loved one” for the single Telemiscommunications.

The results of the collaborative method highlight how the same idea can be so visually different but work all the same. Saying the same thing in 19 different ways. I think its really poignant and affective.

Mesmorising!
